In France, a “pont” is the day you take off between a public holiday and the weekend. Pont Malin finds every one of them, works out what each day off is worth and suggests the plan that gives you the most rest from your leave. Try it — the year is right below.

A holiday on a Thursday, a weekend right behind it: book the Friday and the arch holds. Pont Malin runs that calculation for every working day of the year.

- Days of rest ÷ days booked. A ×4 is one Friday worth four days. Bridges are ranked by it.
- The freebies
- A holiday on a Monday or a Friday: three days off without booking anything. Pont Malin lists them apart.

- A break booked late December runs into the next New Year's Day. The maths looks past the 31st.
